Los Angeles Lakers (previously Minneapolis Lakers) is the team with the most NBA Finals appearances among all franchises. The Lakers set a record of 32 appearances at the biggest stage in the NBA. They have won 16 times and lost 15 times in the NBA Finals on their record. Six of their 32 NBA Finals appearances and five of their wins have come when they were based in Minneapolis. They moved to Los Angeles since the 1960-61 season.
- Boston Celtics: 21 Finals appearances
The Boston Celtics are the most successful team in the history of the NBA, thanks to their 17 championship wins in 21 NBA Finals appearances. Most of their victory came during their 13 years with Bill Russell, during the late 1950s and through the 1960s. The Celtics hold the record for the most consecutive championships won, at 8 straight wins from 1959-1966.
- Golden State Warriors: 11 Finals appearances
The Golden State Warriors (previously Philadelphia and San Francisco Warriors), one of the founding franchises of the NBA, is also the very first champions of the league, for the 1946-1947 season. They made two more Finals and won another title in Philadelphia, before moving to San Franciso in 1962 and to Oakland in 1971. In the same year, their final rebranding as the Golden State Warriors occurred. Now they represent the whole Bay Area with their new stadium in San Francisco.
