The NBA Draft, free agency and the start of the 2020-21 season in a little over a month’s time. Yes, that is 2020 for you.
With the bubble in the rear-view mirror now, the front offices of the NBA have changed their attention to what will be a short off-season. Some players may not be happy with the rapid change but the NBA is determined to return to the regular calendar for the 2021-22 season. And there is a lot of money at stake. That part is really big.
Don’t worry if you are having trouble keeping track of when major events are taking place. We have got a helpful schedule below.
There are major things you need to know about the NBA offseason.
When is the 2020 NBA Draft?
- Date: November 18, 2020
- Time: 7 p.m. ET
The 2020 NBA Draft will take place on Wednesday, November 18. NBA commissioner Adam Silver and deputy commissioner Mark Tatum have planned to announce the first and the second-round selections from ESPN’s studios in Bristol, Conn. The event will be virtually conducted, the same as how the NFL handled its draft earlier this year.
When does NBA free agency start?
- Date: November 20, 2020
- Time: 6 p.m. ET
NBA free agency will start out on Friday, November 20 at 6 p.m. ET. Teams will be allowed to contact their representatives or free agents at that time.
Players will be permitted to sign contracts officially with teams starting Sunday, November 22 at 12:01 p.m. ET.
NBA season, training camp start dates
- Training camp start date: December 1, 2020
- NBA season start date: December 22, 2020
Teams will be back in gymnasiums for training camps starting on Tuesday, December 1, which will give them three weeks to prepare before the Opening Night.
Each team will play 72-game schedule; however, the full regular season and broadcast schedules have not been revealed.
