Boston Celtics
17 NBA Championships is remarkable. Other than the Lakers, no other team in the History of the NBA has won more than 6 times. That large number of trophies implies how dominant the Celtics have been since the early day of the NBA. Bob Cousy and Bill Russell created an elite tandem in the 60s, where they won an NBA record 8 championships in a row. Fast forward a little bit, and we get guys like Kevin McHale, Larry Bird, and Robert Parish to bring home more hardware in the 1980s against their opponents in Los Angeles. Then, of course, there’s the Celtics’ most recent win in 2008, with Ray Allen, Rondo, Paul Pierce, and KG.
The history and the glory. It’s all there for the Celtics, and it’s not difficult to imagine why Boston has such a deep love for their Celtics.
Los Angeles Lakers
There’s just something incredible about the city of Los Angeles. Maybe it’s the beautiful landscapes, or the dynamic culture, or the “hot” weather. The Lakers, it seems, have had the same magic as their city. They rank 2nd position in wins All-Time, 2nd position in Championships All-Time, and have nurtured some of the greatest Players in NBA History put on their infamous Purple and Gold. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson with their “showtime” Lakers, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, and their old-time glory and popular, and of course Kobe, Shaq and their insane dynamic duo performance. Even their front-office and coaching persona has been filled with studs. Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, and Dr. Jerry Buss who managed to keep this franchise on top for decades.
The Lakers have already accomplished more trophies than any team might ever get a chance to do. And although they fall on hard times recently, don’t be fooled: they are destined to rise as hero again.
