In the history of the NBA, there are 20 teams or franchises that have won the league’s Championship and there are 11 teams that have never won the title. So, who are they? Let’s take a look at the list of these teams and discover some facts about each of them.
1. Brooklyn Nets
Brooklyn Nets was previously the New Jersey Nets and the New York Nets, respectively. Led by Julius Erving, they have won the ABA championships for twice. Then they were able to make two NBA finals appearances in 2002 and 2003 under the leading of Jason Kidd. However, they couldn’t overcome the Lakers and the Spurs to earn the NBA Championships.
2. Charlotte Hornets
Started in 1988 and re-established under the name Bobcats in 2004, the team was then renamed as the Charlotte Hornets once again in 2011.
The 1990s saw their greatest teams, first with Alonso Mourning and Larry Johnson and then with Glen Rice, Muggy Bogues, and Kenny Anderson. However, they were never able to pass by the Bulls and the Knicks.
3. Indiana Pacers
Coming from the old ABA where they won the league’s best three championships,Indiana Pacers may have been the best professional basketball team and would have won the NBA champions of those years.
Led by Reggie Miller, they appeared at the 2000 NBA finals but were stopped by Shaq and Kobe when the modern Lakers was just getting underway.
4. Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis Grizzlies is another expansion team that was added to the league in 1988. In 2001, they relocated to Memphis.
The team’s best chance may have been in 2011 when they upset the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs, making it all the way to the Western Conference finals. However, they lost the Championship to the OKC Thunder.
