The restart of the 2020 NBA season will be a 16-day affair starting on July 31, with five to six games played each day during that span and each team playing one back-to-back. There is also a potential of a play-in tournament for the No. 8 position in each conference, which will be triggered by the No. 9 team that would finish within four games of the No. 8 seed. Those teams will match up in a series where the stronger record side will need just one win in order to secure their position in the 2020 Playoffs, while the lower team will have to win two games in a row in order to usurp the spot. Although all series will still be best-of-sevens, the league schedules to condense the postseason as much as it can by moving up beginning dates for each round based on the time when the previous one ends. The Finals will be shortened down to games every other day, meaning that it will take less than two weeks to determine a champion after the conference finals wrap up.
NBA Restart Location
The NBA will restart at Walt Disney World’s ESPN World Wide of Sports campus.
The league has opted to host the remainder eight-game regular season and the whole 2020 NBA Playoffs at this venue. There will be three courts to be used at the complex, with four hours between each game on each individual court to have a buffer for overtime, cleaning, and warm-ups.
